A Book Stand as a Gift for Book Lovers

December 18th, 2009

A book stand is a great gift idea for every true book lover. Currently sole designs vary from straight forward wire creations like the Fold’N'Stow that holds a book at user selectable angles on just about any flat surface, to the infinitely more elaborate LEVO Bookholder that embraces your book in either a floor standing design or a clamp-on design that securely fastens to any table, desk, or counter top. Many book stand designs work best with hardcovers, but they also can function quite well with paperback books held in book holders like an OpenPage.

The Fold’N'Stow is among the least expensive of book stands. It folds flat and is sold with it’s own plastic pouch punched for use in a 3 ring binder. It can be positioned on a counter top for cookbooks, or the top of a desk, table, workstation, bench, etc. Wire arms with page holders swing out from the back plane to secure your book open, and, by moving the arms either closer together or farther apart, smaller and larger books may be easily accommodated. The back of the stand also has horizontal pieces that can be moved to adjust the angle at which the book is held relative the substrate.

The LEVO’s most popular book stand is the LEVO floor standing model, which features a weighted rolling base for easy movement from bedside to treadmill to the couch, desk, table or counter top. Wherever you choose to put it, the LEVO will hold your book in virtually any position you can imagine. With a bookboard that can be adjusted in any plane, and coupled with book mounting straps that will secure your book or other reading material, even upside down, the LEVO enables hands-free reading just about anywhere.

The LEVO Clamp-on design is just as handy as its floor standing sibling, but incorporates a clamp that safely attaches to any countertop, workbench, desk, table or other flat surface up to 2 inches thick, and offers identical movements as the floor stand model, without the range of telescoping movements vertically. By supporting your book or other reading materials up off the surface to which it is secured, the clamp-on design saves the weight and expense of the weighted rolling floor base while freeing up work space, since your book doesn’t rest on the working surface.

Even though there are other book stand designs now available, the Fold’N'Stow and LEVO designs have stood the test of time and function well under long term use.
