Fraxel Laser Treatment Will Help You Turn Back Time

November 25th, 2010

They say everything goes downhill after the age of 40, or is it 35? They also say that you are only as old as you feel but it is hard to feel young when your skin doesn’t look as good as it used to. Laughter lines become set in their ways and turn into wrinkles, years of sun worshipping manifest as age spots and the rate of cell turnover slows, giving the skin an aged appearance. Sounds depressing, I know, but fortunately, we live in a time when lasers can do the most miraculous things, and safely too. The invasive procedures of the old nip and tuck type of surgery are fast becoming a thing of the past, replaced by laser techniques that require very little recovery time. Fraxel is the trademarked name of one such laser skin treatment that assists in the rejuvenation of your body and, consequently, your mind.

Fraxel is a very precise treatment in which small areas of the skin are treated at a time by a multitude of tiny laser beams, each one less than a tenth of the diameter of a human hair follicle. With this kind of precision, the therapist is able to treat the desired areas of skin only, leaving the surrounding skin untouched. Unlike cosmetic surgery procedures that involve making an incision into the skin, laser treatment is non-invasive, so the risk of infection is minimal and the recovery time short. Even though the laser penetrates the skin, there is no wound, and therefore no scabbing. Patients may experience a little redness and swelling after receiving laser treatment but it is not likely to affect their normal activities which can be resumed directly after treatment so there is no down time with this type of treatment.

The laser treatment can be performed at three levels of intensity. The most intensive level is naturally intended for the worse case scenario regarding skin damage, whilst the middle level is for less damaged skin and the least intensive level is for skin that is the least badly damaged. All three levels of treatment resurface the skin to reveal the more youthful layers by stimulating collagen and tightening the skin. The treatment also can help to reduce the early signs of aging by stimulating the renewal of cells below the first layer of skin and it is the heat from the laser that stimulates the skin to renew itself. Unlike some other skin treatments which only work on the top layer of skin cells, this treatment goes beneath it to where the young, active and healthy cells are. Brown spots and melasma also fall under the umbrella of skin aging and can be treated by laser.

But Fraxel is not only for the reversal of aging, however, it can also be used to treat acne scars, excessive hair growth, stretch marks, spider veins and rosacea. All of these skin conditions can be socially embarrassing, not to mention, unsightly. It may take more than one laser treatment for the condition to be eliminated but the benefits outweigh the advantages.
