Gift Giving and Mom

April 13th, 2010

It is only one month away, can you guess, what special day is coming up? For those that hate this kind of fun, I will make it a little easier for you, Mom’s Day! Celebrating, enjoying or remembering mom is my absolute cherished holidays. Yes, I am slightly partial in that I am a mother, but I relish expressing how much I adore and respect her. Cheesy I know, but when one does not have alot of family, you are thankful for what you do have even more. The challenging thing about Mother’s Day is not my capability to verbally articulate my adoration for mom, it is through gifts bought or hand-made. I must confess, I do select great cards and regularly add my private note, but back to my inability to find the ideal token of my affection. I quickly thought, I cannot be the single person out there with this quandary, so I made the decision to comprise a list of promising gift ideas. I created three categories to split all of them.

1. Traditional: Flowers are a good staple. What woman doesn’t enjoy receiving a bouquet of pretty and colorful flowers? Of course, there is also the fruit bouquets or boxes. Yummy and good for you, perfect mix! On the other hand, there is chocolate! What person doesn’t love chocolate? Dark, milk, white, sugar free, comes in so many forms and shapes. Jewelry is also a great option. one can get one of the those #1 Mom necklaces or a family tree with everyone’s birthstone. The classic baked homemade cookies or any made by hand project is a winner too! Of course many things today come personalized, digital or otherwise. Photoframes, cups, mouse pads or even key chains. A photo book could also fit the bill, you can personalize it and add comments. For example plenty of websites offer photo book options and they even have coupons. You could try Photo Works discount codes. Even your child’s handprint would be a awesome idea and not as pricey. Overall, these are traditional and believe me there is nothing wrong with that. Everyone loves a little tradition.

2. Gift Certificates: Maybe mother has a favorite place she enjoys to go shopping at or restaurant she loves eating at. Restaurant.com offers plenty of ideas and savings on their gift cards. Spoil her to a dinner that includes dessert! One can even get a ittle creative and create your own gift certificate for special one on one time with you and the family. I always think of the Friends episode when Joey has a certificate for “Joey time”. Funny, but I am sure you would make a lasting impression on her, especially if it is made from scratch. C’mon she deserves it! Gift certificates are easy and that way mother can pick out when and where she enjoys her gift. Plus, they won’t spoil or wither on her.

3. Personal Touch: Personalized stationary or special cards from you dedicated to mom are great! She could use it everyday and think of you at the simultaneously. You could go with a license plate frame and tell the person parked behind your mom that she is loved and the best mom on this planet. A Spa day, massage, facial, hair day, manicure and pedicure day works with or without you. Clothes are also a good alternative, work out or everyday. Does mother collect anything? Crystals, stuffed animals, spoons? Help her expand her collection. Maybe she needs a good trip or vacation. Cruises or even a small road trip to wine country would do the trick. The right touch makes all the difference.

Some of these of course, could fall into all 3 categories depending on how you work it. Like the old adage, the very best things in life are free! Meaning the best gift of all,is YOU or as my mom says, her grandchild. Oh one more gift you can offer, grandkids!
