Living In The Attitude of Abundance
There are two governing philosophies behind people’s motives. The first is the attitude of scarcity. People who live this lifestyle believe life only has so much to offer – only so much food, so many relationships, so many cars – they respond by hoarding everything. The other philosophy, an attitude of abundance, is the exact opposite. The abundance personalities believe life has much to offer outside of the present – there will always be more money to be made tomorrow, another girlfriend or boyfriend, lover, and food to eat. The abundance attitude lends itself to easy-going, non-clingy relationships and can really help in the world of dating or marriage.
Sometimes we get caught in the moment and feel we need to force an outcome with a person we meet, be liked right away or be accepted. Rejection can feel like the roof caving in on us or a whirlpool of disaster swirling around us. It’s our last shot, we might think. We better push until we get our way. The thing is people detect this attitude and it comes off as desperate, over-bearing, and even downright pushy. Confidence is one thing, but the scarcity mindset tells us we have to make it or break it with this one, because nothing lies beyond this net, this catch.
Having the abundance mindset frees us from this desperate thinking. We can relax and play the game the way it’s meant to be played. We can go to bat and, if we strike out, we don’t quit. We walk back up to the plate and look for the next homerun.
