Want To Purchase Fish Oil? First Check These THree Things

February 1st, 2010

When you are purchasing fish oil it is tempting to use price as your reason to buy, however this might not be the smartest thing to do as ultimately you will be getting the quality that you have paid for. You see, there has been an increase of the number of makers producing this product due to the need from the market place for it as its health properties become more noted. The problem though, is that the health industry is not heavily regulated and so you will get producers making a low-cost product to sell in volume which may not be offering you what you need and could potentially be detrimental for your health. That said, here are what I believe to be the three most critical things to look for when you purchase fish oil.

1)Purity When you buy a supplementation it is essential that you ascertain that it has gone through a refining process called molecular distillation. The grounds for this is because oily fish are noted for carrying mercury and PCB’s, which if taken for a sustained period of time can be detrimental for your health. The challenge is though, that it is not a cheap process and therefore a lot of companies do not do it, meaning in effect they are putting impure tablets in the marketplace. Sometimes they will try and get around this by saying their tablets are pharmaceutical grade, but they are more than likely still polluted.

2) Freshness One of the most common problems with fish oil supplementations is that people complain about having fishy burping after having them. The reason for this is that some manufacturers make their tablets with rancid fish. This takes place when they purchase their stock from fishermen who have frozen their catch at sea, which allows them to stay at sea longer, catch more and sell in higher volumes at a lower price. So in a perfect world your tablet should be created from fish that is caught and processed within a short time frame.

3) DHA levels The essential fats that come from oily fish and do so much good for you are EPA and DHA. Of the 2 you want a supplement that is greater in DHA as this is the one that is strongly linked with health benefits such as protecting your heart, feeding your brain and being an anti inflammatory. The thing is though, when you look at most supplements you will see they are higher in EPA and although not bad for you, ideally you want it the other way around.

I know this may seem a lot to go through when you buy fish oil, but believe me, once you have discovered a supplement that fits this criteria then you will discover the difference. And I say that to you as an individual who has been having these kind of supplements in one form or other for over 10 years now and has experienced the fishy burps.

Before you go looking through the internet for places where to purchase fish oil that matches this criteria, I recommend you visit my website, where not only can you get your free 5 part guide all about fish oil, but you can also learn which brand it is that I personally take, but do not forget to consult with a physian before you start taking them.
